Incision & Drainage

This is a minor surgical procedure to release pus or pressure built up under the skin – from an abscess or boil. It is performed by first treating the infected area with an antiseptic such as an iodine- based solution and then making a small incision to puncture the skin using a sterile instrument such as a sharp needle, a pointed scalpel or a lancet. This drains the fluid from the pus as it is drawn out through the incision.
